Why, Hippos, Why? is a collection of short stories and vignettes written by Loz Etheridge and J. J. Guest. Most were written a few lines at a time, taking turns, like a game of consequences. Some were originally written on paper, and some online using a text messaging service. They are best thought of as a type of literary improvisation comedy.
J. J. Guest is best known for his interactive fiction. His game Alias 'The Magpie' took 1st Place overall, and 1st Place, Miss Congeniality in the 24th Annual Interactive Fiction Competition (2018). He is also a collage artist, an animator and a performance artist.
